Another Death and thoughts on after

George died. He was a maintenance man at the mall I work at. I've known him for 6 years now. He was a cranky old fart with a sarcastic sense of humor. He had been sick with cancer for quite some time and his passing is is some ways a blessing because it wasn't going to get better. Steve (his partner and friend) came into my work today to tell me and we reminisced about George. The thing I said that stood out in my mind the most was his talking about baseball, and his love/hate relationship with the Red Sox. When I first met him he told me the story of how his father made him a Red Sox fan. He said his Dad would tell him stories about watching the Sox win the Series when he was younger. So year after year George said he would cheer them on. But year after year.... well we all know. He said he was convinced that he would die before the bums ever won the Series again. Every year they lost he got a little more bitter about the team, yet ever start of a new season he would be there cheering for them again. Then, of course, in 2004 the Sox won it. George was estatic. He told me the day after the final game that no matter what happened now he could die happy. Well he lasted another year, but at least he got to see it.

Steve then said that George was probably out there now gearing up for next season. I agreed, and that made Steve look at me wierd. He said he thought I didn't believe in God and heaven and that stuff. I said I don't but that doesn't mean I think life ends with the death of the physical body. He didn't understand how that could be.
But I told him I've seen to many wierd things to disbelive in life after death.

Do you believe in ghosts? A funny thing the other night, I was watching TV with my pops, and the Ghost Hunters came on Sci-fi channel. I love this show. My Dad however didn't. What a "load of crap" is his opinion. When I pressed him he said it was all fake, ghosts and aliens and bigfoot. He said "Show Me.". I started laughing. He asked why I was laughing and I said so you won't believe without visual proof? He said yes, so I then said so why do you go to church every Sunday for a God you've never seen? What makes him real? Well needless to say that started a huge fight, but I stand by my way of thinking.
See I have seen stuff that I just can't explain. So have quite a few people I know. So If I believe that I've seen a ghost then I have to believe in the fact of some sort of life after death. Then one implies the other.
The funny thing is I've known people who said they would love to see a ghost. But they don't quite understand what it's like. The human mind isn't conditioned to accept stuff. While I didn't have too hard a problem I've known a few friends who got really freaked out by seeing things they couldn't explain. It bothered their mins to the point where they just decided they must not have seen anything. In one case, three people who all saw the same thing but 2 of them became determined after about a few days that they must have imagined it, even though there had been three of them there. Now one of them still says he saw something and the other two laugh at him about it, when in fact they saw it too. Thats the beauty of the human mind.
So do you believe in ghosts? If so why? Have you seen anything? If so what? Or are you one of those who thinks that life is just as mundane and catogorized as science would have us believe? Me, I think George is gonna be cheering the Sox for a long time to come. He was a good man.

Dude, I've been trying to get a few people together to do the Warren's road trip every year (they go to 4 or 5 haunted houses in CT and MA in the course of a day). It usually happens late spring and then early fall again. Let me know if your interested..

I don't have much experience with ghosts. But I do believe in them, and am pretty sure they are all around all the time. I also believe I have a guardian who watches over me. I believe in lots of strange things.

Sorry to see another death in this holiday season.

I remember George. He was a great guy. If you looked at him, you might just think "whos that greasy old fart over there?", but if you ever talked to him, his smile and charm was infectious.
He looked like the kind of guy you'd expect to be working on a train engine, or covered in soot, working in a coal mine. He had a coarse charm that made me just want to smile, and I usually did.
Nice guy. I wish his family well, they're in my prayers.

I bet you're right - George is gearing up for the next season. I believe in God & ghosts too... I had a crazy experience with a ouija board once - scared the crap outta me. Won't touch one now.

I hope you are all better now, Az. (Reading the last few blogs about being sick.)

Btw, the JPD blog got taken over by a porn site. I made a new name b/c I didn't want that crazy bitch at work being about to google me to find my new blog. Of course, she found it anyway... Blah! Oh well, that's just how it goes, I guess.

wow interesting...

I do believe in ghosts, of course I havent seen any. I mean I have seen them in a sort of different state, so I've seen them through the eyes of my past. Yes in the past I've seen them but not in a way that other's would quite understand.

I didn't see some ghostly cold presence standing there before me. I saw what looked like real live people. The ghosts I've seen are all flesh in blood but not exactly there.

Nobody else could really see them but myself, if I saw any then I asked if other's could see but they were blinded by what I saw. I don't see them much anymore.

I feel their presence, I feel the energy around them but I don't see them in physical form.

They may be ghosts from the past that I've seen or it may be just my thinking about it so much that my mind starts to see them. It may be a mental thing or not. I'm not quite sure. But yes, I do believe in ghosts.

I don't believe in God, devil, heaven or hell (as you know). I do believe in spirits, energies, ghosts.

Az is absolutely right about the human mind and the way it can accept or not accept things like this. I have been a believer in 'some type of life after death' for quite some time. I dont proclaim to have any clue as to how it works, but although Ive been very open minded to the subject for years. my own personal experience with a spirit or ghost was a bit different then I would have hoped or expected. Even though my heart was desperate for a message from this person, my mind refused to accept something that my eyes had seen in reality. It took me nearly a year to accept that the spirit was near me, and visible at certain times, but it did finally break through the barrier of logic in my brain. With acceptance of its presence came its disappearance. I have never seen it again, but if I do, I still cant be sure the reaction I would have. I never expected the one I got in the first place.

Great post Az and sorry about another loss in your life.

the thing is, ive seen such things too and while it's true the brain is not conditioned to accept things that flabbergast, it's still a pretty cool thing ... to experience it, that is ... when i was 16 i saw my recently deceased grandfather walk through my kitchen ... so manifestation of some kind of grief or actually did i see him? i dont know. but i do like telling that to people ...

um. yes.

very nice writing here. and everywhere. i've lurked around all your blogs :)

How can you believe in ghosts, but God is out of the question? :)

(BTW, what you believe is up to you, I'm just pointing out logic holes.)

Babushka,
I remeber the stories you have told me about George, may he continue to watch the red sox from up above. Well you know me, I believe in it all, because their are to many things you can't explain. There is also a connection between your heart, mind and soul that can't be explained. I have many stories and thought, but may be another time. I must say I always feel bad for ghost, because there is usually something unsettling to them that has kept them here, when they should go home and be reunited with all those that have come before them. I know you joke about haunted people after you die, but I am going to be very upset if when I died your not there to greet me because your still stuck on earth.
